One printer, three paper widths – the TM-U220 is the first in the family of EPSON dot matrix printers to boast this new feature. Whereas its predecessor model, the TM-U210, could take only one paper width, the TM-U220 provides the option of using paper reels 58, 70 or 76 mm wide. This means not only greater flexibility, but possibly also hard cash for the user. That’s because big retail businesses with several check-outs can cut costs appreciably by using narrower receipt reels.

 

The even speedier (s)printer
Speed counts – and that’s why EPSON has not only optimised the speed but also the performance of the printer. With a paper width of 76 mm and 40 characters per line, the TM-U220 prints at a speed of 4.7 lines per second. With only 30 characters per line, it even manages up to 6.0 lines per second.

 

Complicated, time-consuming changing of paper reels is now a thing of the past. Thanks to the new drop-in system, the receipt reel can be changed in a matter of seconds.

 

The paper cutter offers two options. As required, the user can choose between “full cut” and “one-point-left cut”. Whereas “full cut” cleanly cuts off the entire receipt, the “one-point-left cut” leaves one corner still attached to the reel. This feature is particularly useful in the kind of retail sectors where the customer does not usually want the receipt.

 

Just like the TM-U210, the newcomer optionally features a two-colour ribbon that enables two-colour printing in red and black so that logos and special offers can be highlighted to great effect. Last but not least, the TM-U220 boasts two data memories: the 8 KB user memory and the 128 KB logo memory for faster printing of logos and graphics.

 

Good features maintained
As with its predecessors, there will be three versions of the new EPSON TM-U220 dot matric printer. Version A has an automatic cutter and journal function, while version B only features the automatic cutter, but can be wall-mounted – a distinct advantage where space at the POS is limited or the printer is used in the gastronomic trade, for example mounted on a kitchen wall. Version D is the most affordable option, featuring neither function. Wherever the TM-U220 is used – in the gastronomic or hotel trade, specialist and retail trade or in the public sector – users can select the version best suited to their individual requirements.

 

Compatibility is also assured. Anyone wishing to replace the TM-U210 with the TM-U220 can do so without any problems―and without having to adapt the cash register software to the new receipt printer.
