Components employed:

Epson Robot Systems,
Model: ES 653S with SRC-320 Control

Situation:

Two types of illuminant for the automotive industry are subjected to starter tests in the vehicle installation position. Starting the illuminant requires a high voltage pulse. Testing includes the starting of the illuminant in the cold and warm states and monitoring of the required starting pulses. The illuminants of the type specified which are identified as good parts must be printed on with an inkjet printer. Reject parts must be separated out and are repaired by operative personnel where possible, owing to the high manufacturing costs.
As the carriers are filled manually, a conveyor belt with an appropriate buffer section must be provided.

Solution:

The illuminants are supplied on the carriers. The carriers are fed via a conveyor belt featuring a sorting and positioning system.
A Type ES 653s Epson SCARA robot with an SRC-320 control, removes the illuminants from the carrier and inserts these into 24 testing positions. Following successful testing, the relevant parts are conveyed on for type testing. Only bulbs which correspond to the pre-selected type and are OK are printed with the pre-defined design. Illuminants found to be good which are not of the pre-defined type are returned to the carriers without being printed and reject bulbs are deposited in a bin for subsequent inspection.
