Situation:

For many years, ISI has been a known manufacturer of CO2 cartridges for whipped cream dispensers etc. In addition, the production of cartridges for airbags is set to begin. With this project it was necessary to guarantee 100% testing, frequently required by the automotive industry and taken for granted in the case of these safety-relevant parts.

Solution:

For quality assurance purposes, an Epson Scara Robot inserts the cartridges, which are filled with 200 bar and sealed, into a tester. The robot operates two of the test devices and the length of the test cycles is variable. A server, which logs the inspection of each cartridge, moves the robot to the next respective free tester. By means of a double gripper, the cartridge last tested is removed and the next cartridge, which is already located in the gripper, is inserted.

The Epson Robot System performs the following tasks:
- Handling of the airbag
- Operation of the test devices

Notes:

The number of robots required increased continuously in line with the number of cartridges produced. Today, 9 operate in the test facilities, further facilities are already in planning.
